  • Recognized in 2023: Awarded by Chi Sigma Iota: Counseling Academic & Professional Honor Society International.

    Description: The Practitioner Award was established to recognize an outstanding counselor whose time is spent primarily in direct clinical counseling services.

    Criteria for Nomination and Selection:

    A current member of Chi Sigma Iota

    Spends at least 50% of time in direct clinical counseling services

    Identifies self as a professional counselor

    State licensed, certified as a school counselor, and/or holds a national credential as a professional counselor

    Has been and is currently a member in good standing with state and/or national accrediting bodies

    Publishes, presents at professional meetings, or otherwise educates other practitioners about successful clinical practices or theories

    Eligibility Criteria:

    Award nominations may be submitted only by active Chapters.

    Nominator must be an active member of Chapter (dues must be current).

    Activity and/or accomplishments within the last two years will be considered; therefore, all material must be dated.

    Only one nomination for this award may be submitted by the Chapter.

  • Recognized at the May 2022 graduate commencement ceremony by the George Washington University’s (GWU) Graduate School of Education and Human Development (GSEHD).

  • Awarded by the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development (AMCD), a division of the American Counseling Association (ACA), in 2022.

    “This award honors an AMCD member whose work has exemplified AMCD’s commitment to human rights and made a significant contribution in one or more areas of the broad spectrum of human rights.”

  • Awarded by the Association of Counselors for Social Justice (CSJ), a division of the American Counseling Association (ACA) in 2021.

    “This award honors individuals whose life and work affirm diversity and advocate for social justice. More importantly, individuals nominated have demonstrated the following Ohana qualities: caring, humility, intelligence, generosity, integrity, honesty, unconditional love, spiritual power, courtesy, and courage.”

  • Awarded by The American Counseling Association (ACA) in 2020.

    “Recognizes an ACA member who has demonstrated the potential to become a dedicated leader of the counseling profession in future years.”

  • Awarded by the Virginia Counselors Association (VCA) at the Convention 2019 in Hot Springs, VA.

    “The recipient shall be a member in good standing of the VCA in the year the award is made. The recipient shall be recognized as having: Rendered a significant contribution to the organization he/she serves; and rendered outstanding guidance, counselor and/or personnel services to persons through the organization whether school, clinic or industry; and exhibited leadership in the community through the organization being served.”

  • Awarded by the Association of Multicultural Counseling and Development (AMCD) in 2019.

    “Honors an AMCD whose service at the local, state, national, or international level has stimulated interest in multicultural counseling and development and/or enhanced the well-being of members of the populations served by AMCD.”

  • Awarded by the Prince William Regional Counselors Association’s (PWRCA), a chapter of the Virginia Counselors Association, in 2018.

    “The Humanitarian and Caring Person Award is an annual award established to recognize a member who truly cares for the welfare of others and who cares about social issues and problems. What is sought is the honoring of persons who give to others without fanfare or expectation of reward other than personal satisfaction in seeing other persons made happier or the social milieu given more integrity.”

These awards and recognitions (2016-Present) are a tribute to and reflection of the strength of my communities who inspire me to exercise my voice; my colleagues who mentor, empower, and encourage me to raise my voice; my family who created , nurture, and support my voice; my clients and students who grow my voice; and my partner and friends who celebrate my voice.

I am confident that I would never reach such spaces of privilege without their help and support.
